In India, we have lots of dal recipes. Today we are going to see a very basic version of dal which is Arhar ki dal or Toovar dal or Toor dal. This dish is made by cooking toor dal with onions, tomatoes and spices. For vegetarians, toor dal is the great source of proteins. It has lots of health benefits. To name a few, Toor dal is
👉 Good for bone health.
👉 Good source of B Complex vitamin and folic acid.
👉 Good source of fiber and hence gut friendly.
Ingredients:
Toor dal 1 cup
Onion 1
Tomato 1
Ginger 1 inch
Garlic 1 pod
Turmeric Powder a pinch
Cumin Powder 1 tsp
Coriander Powder 1 tsp
Chilli Powder 1/2 tsp
Red Chilli 1
Asafoetida a pinch
Salt to taste
Oil / butter
Curry Leaves / Coriander leaves to garnish
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Kasuri Methi Leaves
Method:
💧 Pressure cook dal for 4 whistles.
💧 Heat oil/butter in a pan.
💧 Once hot add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli and allow it to splutter.
💧 Next add ginger and garlic. Saute them until the raw smell of garlic goes away.
💧 Add chopped onions and saute them until translucent.
💧 Next add chopped tomatoes and saute until the tomatoes turn soft.
💧 Add turmeric powder, Cumin powder, Coriander powder, Chilli powder, asafoetida and salt.
💧 Add the cooked dal to them. Adjust the consistency by adding water.
💧 Allow them to simmer for 5 minutes.
💧 Switch off the flame.
💧 Garnish with kasuri methi leaves and curry / coriander leaves.
