Lauki Chana Dal


Today's post is "Lauki Chana Dal". Lauki is Bottle Gourd and Chana dal is Bengal gram dal. This is a very scrumptious & healthy side dish that pairs well with roti or steamed hot rice.

Let's see how to make this healthy dal.


Ingredients:


Bottle gourd 1

Chana Dal 1/2 cup

Onion 1

Tomato 1

Turmeric Powder a pinch

Coriander Powder 1 tsp

Garam Masala Powder 1 tsp

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp

Red Chilli 1

Ginger 1 inch

Green Chilli 1

Garlic 1 or 2 pods

Curry / Coriander leaves few

Salt to taste

Ghee 1 tsp

Juice from half lemon


Method:

  • Peel the skin of the bottle gourd and chop them into small pieces.

  • Soak Chana Dal for half an hour. Then drain the water and keep it aside.

  • Add the bottle gourd, chana dal, a dollop of ghee and turmeric powder to a cooker. Add water and pressure cook for 4 whistles.

  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli, curry leaves & coriander leaves. Saute for a minute. Then add ginger, garlic & green chilli. Saute well.

  • Add chopped onions and tomatoes. Saute until onions turn translucent and tomatoes turn soft.

  • Add coriander powder, salt, turmeric powder, garam masala powder.

  • Add the pressure cooked bottle gourd and chana dal mixture. Mix well.

  • Simmer for 3 minutes, add juice from half lime, mix well and switch off the flame.
