Manathakali Keerai Paruppu


Today's post is "Manathakali Keerai Poriyal".


Manathakali Keerai is called as "Black Night Shade" in English. It is a great remedy to cure mouth ulcers. It is a wonder plant and has many nutritional benefits. Do you know that this green:

👉 treats urinary infection

👉 helps to cure constipation

👉 improves vision

👉 treats mouth ulcer

👉 improves digestion


And the list goes on 😅.


This plant does not require much water and soil fertility to grow. The plant has white leaves and green berries. These berries are sun-dried and are used for making kuzhambu. Or they can be fried in ghee and had with plain rice.



Ingredients:


Manathakali Keerai 1 bunch

Tur dal 1/4 cup

Grated Coconut 3 tbsp

Red Chilli 2

Cumin Seeds 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Asafoetida a pinch


Method:

  1. Pressure cook manathakali keerai along with tur dal for 4 whistles.

  2. Grind coconut, red chilli and cumin seeds into a thick paste adding little water.

  3. Heat oil in a pan. Once hot, add mustard seeds & red chilli. Allow it to splutter.

  4. Add the cooked spinach and dal.

  5. Add salt, asafoetida and the ground coconut paste (step 2).

  6. Saute well and Switch off the flame.
