Moong Dal Tadka

Today's post is "Moong Dal Tadka". Do you know that moong dal is:


👉 a good source of protein and dietary fibre.

👉 low in fat and rich in B complex vitamins, calcium and potassium

👉 heart-friendly and helps to lower the cholesterol level in the blood system

👉 extremely easy to digest

👉 good source of iron


Lets get on to the post.


Ingredients:


Moong Dal 1 cup

Tomato 1

Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

Garam Masala Powder 1 tsp

Chilli Powder 1 tsp

Turmeric Powder a pinch

Coriander leaves few

Kasuri Methi few


For the tadka:


Oil / ghee 2 or 3 tsp

Onion 1

Ginger 1 inch

Garlic Pods 3 to 4

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1 tsp

Red Chilli 1


Method:

  1. Add Moong dal, chopped tomatoes, salt, chilli powder, turmeric powder & cumin seeds to a cooker. Add 2 cups of water. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.

  2. Once the pressure is released, adjust the consistency of the dal adding water if required.

  3. Next add ghee / oil in a pan.

  4. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli. Once they splutter, add ginger, garlic and chopped onions.

  5. Once they get fried, pour it over the dal.

  6. Simmer the dal for 2 to 3 minutes.

  7. Switch off the flame.

  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and Kasuri methi leaves.


This can be had with steamed basmati rice or even with roti.
