Raw Mango Dal


Dal is always a comfort food, isn’t it? There are many varieties of dal recipes in Indian cuisine, be it the rich and creamy Dal Makhni to the very humble Yellow Dal. But do you know that there is a dal that can be made with a tangy and chilli twist? Oh yes !! It is the Raw Green Mango Dal. This is called “Mamidikaya Pappu” in Andhra cuisine. There are many ways of making this dal, but this is how my mom makes it.


Ingredients:


Raw Green Mango 1

Tur dal 1 cup

Green Chilli 1

Hing pinch

Turmeric Powder pinch

Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Ghee for tempering

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp

Red Chilli 1

Coriander leaves


Method:


💫 Peel the skin of raw mango and chop them into small pieces. Pressure cook dal along with chopped mango, turmeric powder and slit green chilli for 4 whistles.


💫 Once done, mash the dal well. Add a tsp of chilli powder. (Do not mix)


💫 Heat ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and red chilli. When they splutter, add the tadka over the chilli powder. Mix well and simmer for 4 to 5 minutes.


💫 Garnish with Coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
