Sorrel Leaves (Gongura) Dal


Greens should be an important part of our diet. All greens are healthy and have their own benefits. Sorrel leaves is no exception to that. They are full of nutrients and offers lot of health benefits. To name a few, Sorrel leaves (are) :

  • rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2 and B9

  • has high amounts of Vitamin C

  • rich in flavanoids

  • improves eyesight

  • detoxifies our body

  • boosts energy

  • strengthens immunity

Lets see how to make a healthy dal using Sorrel leaves.


Ingredients:


Sorrel Leaves 1 bunch

Onion 1 big

Tomato 1 big

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp

Red Chilli 1

Green Chilli 1 or 2

Ginger 1 inch

Garlic pods 2 to 3

Red Chilli Powder 1 tsp

Cumin Powder 1 tsp

Coriander Powder 1 tsp

Turmeric Powder a pinch

Tamarind extract 2 or 3 tsp

Hing

Salt to taste

Sesame Oil


Method:

  1. Heat Oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli and urad dal. Once they splutter, add green chilli, ginger & garlic. Saute for a minute.

  2. Add chopped onions. Saute until the onions turn translucent.

  3. Add chopped tomatoes. Saute until they turn soft.

  4. Add turmeric powder, hing salt. Mix well.

  5. Add the chopped Sorrel leaves. Cover and cook until the leaves wilt.
