Batata Harra

I love potatoes in any form. How about you?

So "Batata Harra" literally means "hot potatoes" in Arabic. This is a middle eastern appetizer made with potatoes, coriander, garlic, red chilli flakes and lemon.

There are many different ways in which this dish can be made. Generally the potatoes are deep fried. Just to be guilt free, I boiled the potatoes and used it. Also the coriander seeds are roasted and added as whole. But since my kids dont love that texture, I ground the roasted coriander seeds and used it as a powder, so that they dont get to bite the roasted seeds.

Trust me, if you love potatoes, you are in for a treat for sure.

Ingredients:

Potatoes 5 - 6 medium sized

Coriander leaves 1 cup

Coriander powder 1.5 tsp

Cumin powder 1 tsp

Turmeric powder 1 tsp

Garlic pods 2 or 3

Red Chilli flakes 1 tsp

Juice of 1 lemon

Pepper powder 1/2 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil

Method:

1. Peel the potatoes. Boil them until they are soft.

2. Heat oil in a pan.

3. When hot, add the minced garlic along with red chilli flakes, coriander leaves, coriander powder and cumin powder over medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes.

4. Add turmeric powder and juice of a lemon.

5. Add the boiled potatoes along with salt. Let it blend well with the above seasoning for five minutes.

6. Switch off the flame.

7. Garnish with ground pepper and more chili flakes if you want it to be very spicy.
