Today's post is "Jeera Rice". Jeera is "Cumin Seeds". This is a rice dish made by tempering rice with cumin seeds and spices. They are very subtle in taste.
Cumin Seeds is one of the spice from the Masala Box that is predominantly used in Indian cuisine. Be it in the tadka of a simple dal or adding it to flavour a rasam or even to a salad for an extra cumin kick, their uses are versatile and most importantly they are healthy .
Cumin Seeds:
👉 contain anti-oxidants
👉 have anti-cancer properties
👉 help to control blood sugar
👉 help to lower cholesterol
👉 aid in weight loss
👉 are good for gut health.
👉 are a rich source of iron
👉 boosts immunity
👉 are good for liver
👉 are good for skin
These are just few benefits of consuming Cumin Seeds. A simple jeera water is a natural remedy for various health problems. So, let's get onto the recipe which uses the goodness and flavour of cumin seeds. I used a rice cooker for making this. You can make it in pressure cooker too.
Ingredients:
Basmati Rice 1 cup
Onion 1
Cumin Seeds 1 tsp or 1.5 tsp
Ginger 2 tsp
Green Chilli 1
Water 1.5 cup
Ghee
Method:
💧 Soak basmati rice for 15 minutes.
💧 Switch on the rice cooker. Add ghee, green chilli and ginger.
💧 Saute it for 20 seconds.
💧 Next add cumin seeds and saute it for 30 seconds.
💧 Add chopped onions and saute them until translucent.
💧 Add the drained rice to it. Saute it for a minute so that the rice blends well with the rest of the ingredients.
💧 Add salt, water. (For 1 cup basmati rice, I add 1.5 cups water). Close the rice cooker with its lid. Once done the cooker will automatically switch off.
💧 Enjoy it with any gravy / dal. I paired it with Aloo Capsicum and a simple yellow dal.
