Panchamirtham

Today being "Thaipusam", I thought of sharing this simple recipe prepared using banana as base and with other dry fruits such as raisins and dates enriched with cardamom flavor. This is a very famous prasadham (offered to God) in Palani Murugar Temple.

"Thai" is the name of Tamil month and "Pusam" is a star. The festival commemorates the occasion when Parvati gave Murugan (aka Kartikeya) a Vel "spear" so he could vanquish the evil demon Soorapadman and his brothers.(Source: Wikipedia).

Let's get on to the post.

Ingredients:

Banana 2

Raisins 2 tsp

Dates 5 to 6

Brown Sugar / Country Sugar 2 tsp

Sugar Candy (Kalkandu) 2 tsp

Honey 1 or 2 tsp

Ghee 1 tsp

Cardamom Powder a pinch

Edible Camphor a pinch

Method:

To a bowl, add the mashed bananas, chopped dates, raisins. Mix them nicely. Next add the rest of the ingredients and mix them thoroughly.
