Chickpea Sundal

Name the one dish that comes to your mind if I say "Chickpeas"? I would love to hear from you all about that.


Friends, if you say "Hummus", I want to let you that there is a world of Chickpeas recipes beyond hummus. No doubt, hummus is an awesome dish. From Mediterranean Falafels, to Espinacos con Garbanzos and to our very own Indian Chickpea sundal, Chickpeas are used in making lots of interesting recipes all over the world.


This post is all about the Chickpeas Sundal. Packed with proteins, this bowl is very healthy and filling too. Am sharing a very basic recipe. It can be customized as per your needs.


Ingredients:


Chickpeas 1 cup

Coconut few

Ginger 1/2 inch

Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp

Juice from half a lemon

Salt to taste

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp

Red Chilli 1

Oil

Curry leaves


Method:


  1. Soak the Chickpeas for 12 to 24 hours.

  2. Grind coconut and ginger together without adding water.

  3. Pressure cook the chickpeas for 4 whistles.

  4. Heat Oil in a pan.

  5. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and red chilli. Allow it to splutter.

  6. Once they splutter, add the cooked chickpeas.

  7. Add turmeric powder and salt to it.

  8. Saute them for a minute.

  9. Next add the ground coconut and ginger.

  10. Switch off the flame.

  11. Squeeze the juice of a lemon.

  12. Garnish with curry leaves.
