Green Sundakkai Kootu

Today's post is on Sundakkai (Turkey Berry) Kootu. This is a special post because this sundakkai is home-grown. Yes, we have a small garden at our home growing tomatoes, cauliflower, guava, avocado, sundakkai, capsicum, green chilli, basil leaves, karpuravalli leaves, curry leaves and roses. Sundakkai has lots of health benefits. They (are):

👉 Good for digestion

👉 Iron rich that is beneficial for treating anemia

👉 Good for controlling diabetes

👉 Good for heart as it contains essential amino acids

👉 Good for treating intestinal worms

👉 Prevents kidney disease


Okie lets get on to the post. This is a mixture made out of Sundakkai with moong dal and spices in a coconut gravy.


Ingredients:


Green Sundakkai 1 cup

Onion 1

Tomato 1

Moong dal 1/2 cup

Fennel Seeds 1/2 tsp

Shredded Coconut 1/4 cup

Turmeric powder 1 tsp

Salt to taste

Shredded Coconut 3 tbsp

Bengal gram dal 1 tbsp

Pepper 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1 tsp

Oil

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Curry Leaves


Method:


🌿 Add green sundakkai, chopped onion, tomato, fennel seeds and moong dal to a vessel.

🌿 Add turmeric powder and water to it. Pressure cook for 4 whistles.

🌿 Heat oil in a pan. Add bengal gram dal, pepper, cumin seeds to the pan. Once it becomes brown, remove it from the pan and allow it to cool.

🌿 Grind it along with coconut into a thick paste adding little water once cooled.

🌿 Add this ground paste along with salt to the cooked sundakkai dal.

🌿 Allow this kootu mixture to simmer for couple of minutes.

🌿 Switch off the flame.

🌿 Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds.

🌿 Once it splutters, pour it over the kootu mixture.

🌿 Garnish with coriander leaves and curry leaves.
