Kara Chutney

Today's post is on Kara Chutney. It literally means Spicy Chutney. This is my all-time favourite. What is your favourite Chutney for idli / dosa? Let me know in the comments section 😀.


Let's get on to the post.


Ingredients:

Onion 1

Tomatoes 2

Urad Dal 1 tsp

Chana Dal 1 tsp

Red Chilli 2 or 3

Salt to taste

Oil


Method:

1. Dry roast urad dal, chana dal, red chilli until they are brown.

2. Heat oil in a pan. Add onion. Saute until they are translucent.

3. Add chopped tomatoes. Saute until they turn soft.

4. Switch off the flame. Cool them completely.

5. Add the sauted onion tomato mixture and salt along with the roasted ingredients from step 1 to the mixer jar.

6. Grind into a smooth paste adding little water. Transfer the chutney into a bowl.

7. Heat oil in a pan. Once hot, add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Pour the tadka over the chutney.
