Masoor Dal Chutney


Today I share with you a delicious chutney made using a highly nutritious lentil. It is the Masoor Dal Chutney. It goes well with Idli / Dosa. This dal is protein and iron rich, a perfect addition to a Vegetarian's meal. There are so many health benefits of consuming masoor dal. To name a few, they (are):

However too much of anything is not good for health. Despite having many benefits, consuming masoor dal in excess can lead to gas formation thereby causing stomach upset.


***Recipe***


Ingredients:


Masoor dal ยฝ cup

Coriander seeds 1 tsp

Cumin seeds 1 tsp

Red chilies 4 to 5

Tamarind small

Jaggery little

Salt to taste

To temper:


Oil

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Urad Dal 1/2 tsp

Red Chilli 1

Curry leaves few


Method:

  • Dry roast masoor dal. Once they brown, transfer them to a vessel /plate.

  • Next dry roast Coriander seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies and roast them for a minute or until the spices turn aromatic. Then add asafoetida, tamarind and jaggery to it. Saute for few seconds. Switch off the flame.

  • Once cool, transfer them to a mixer jar. Add salt and grind it into a smooth paste adding little water.

  • Prepare the tadka. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli and curry leaves. When they splutter pour it over the Chutney.
