How about a rasam in South Indian Style using Kiwi fruit? Interesting, isn't it? I have already posted one method of making this rasam. Refer to: https://deliciousveggie.wixsite.com/blog/post/kiwi-fruit-rasam

This is another method that I experimented. The rasam was tangy and tasty too. I loved it !!!

**Recipe below **

Ingredients:

Tomato 1

Cooked Thur dal (1/4 cup or as per your taste)

Tamarind - small lemon sized

Asafoetida as per taste

Few Curry leaves

Salt to taste

To Fry and grind:

Toor dal 1 tsp

Pepper 1 1/2 tsp

Cumin seeds 1/4 tsp

Oil / ghee 1 tsp

For the seasoning:

Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp

Curry leaves few

Method:

  1. Soak the tamarind in hot water for 15 minutes. Extract the tamarind pulp and keep it aside.

  2. Fry the ingredients given under "To fry and grind". Once this cools, powder into a fine paste using little water.

  3. Pressure cook the dal. Once cooked, mash it nicely.

  4. Add the chopped tomatoes, tamarind extract, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt to a vessel and bring them to a boil.

  5. Boil on a low heat until the smell of tamarind goes away.

  6. Next add the ground paste (step 2), mashed dal to the above boiling mixture.

  7. Boil them for couple of minutes and add the chopped kiwi fruit.

  8. Let it simmer for 5 minutes and then switch off the flame.

  9. Heat a tbsp of ghee. To it add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves. Once they splutter, add it to the rasam.
