Are you a rasam lover like me 😅? Today's post is Lemon rasam. Vert tangy, zesty & full of flavours. It is pretty simple to make and such a comforting dish too. Can be had as a soup or mixed with hot rice.
Lemons in general are anti-bacterial, anti-viral & immune boosting. Do you know that lemons are good for weight-loss as well? Lemons are rich in vitamin C and flavonoids which work against infections like the flu and colds, most important these days isn't it?
This is how I made it.
Ingredients:
Tomato 1
Juice from 1 lemon
Green Chilli 1 or 2
Tur dal 1/4 cup
Turmeric Powder pinch
Salt to taste
Coriander leaves
To temper:
Ghee 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
Red Chilli 1
Curry Leaves few
Method:
Pressure cook tur dal for 4 whistles. Keep it aside.
Add tomato, chopped green chillies, coriander leaves and water to a vessel.
Add turmeric powder, salt. Allow it to boil until tomatoes turn mushy and you get the aroma of the coriander leaves.
Next add the cooked dal. Add water & adjust the consistency.
Simmer for 3 minutes. When the rasam turns frothy switch off the flame.
Add lemon juice and mix well.
Prepare the tadka. Heat ghee in a pan. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli and curry leaves. When they crackle, pour it over the rasam.
Garnish with Coriander leaves & enjoy it with hot steamed rice.
Note:
Do not re-heat the rasam after adding lemon.
