Lemongrass Rasam


Today's post is a healthy rasam made using Lemongrass.


Lemongrass has lot of health benefits. To name a few, they:

👉 regulates blood pressure

👉 helps to tackle digestive issues

👉 aids in weight loss

👉 are full of anti-oxidants that fights against Cancer

👉 protect cardiovascular health


In addition to lemongrass, this rasam also contains pepper & cumin seeds which is anti-inflammatory and also boosts metabolism.


So in general, including this rasam in your diet improves immunity, which is the need of the hour.


Ingredients:


Tomato 1

Juice from 1 lemon

Green Chilli 1

Tur dal 1/4 cup

Turmeric Powder pinch

Salt to taste


To grind:


Lemongrass Stalk 1 cup

Pepper 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1 tsp


To temper:


Oil 1 tsp

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp


To garnish:


Coriander Leaves few

Curry Leaves few


Method:


  1. Pressure cook tur dal for 4 whistles. Keep it aside.

  2. Grind the ingredients given under "To grind" adding water into a smooth paste.

  3. Add tomato, chopped green chillies and water to a vessel.

  4. Add turmeric powder, salt. Allow it to boil until tomatoes turn mushy.

  5. Add the ground lemongrass paste (step 2) along with cooked dal. Add water & adjust the consistency.

  6. Simmer for 3 minutes. When the rasam turns frothy switch off the flame.

  7. Add lemon juice and mix well.

  8. Prepare the tadka. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds & cumin seeds. When they crackle, pour it over the rasam.

  9. Garnish with Coriander leaves & curry leaves.

  10. Enjoy it with hot steamed rice.


Note:


Do not re-heat the rasam after adding lemon.
