Thippili is called as (Indian) Long Pepper in English. It has immense health benefits. To name a few, they (are):

prevent liver ailments
fight against bacterial infections
Extremely healthy and nutritious, this can be incorporated in the diet atleast once in a week.
Ingredients:
Tomato 1 Tamarind lemon sized Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp Hing a pinch Curry leaves Tur dal 1/2 cup Salt to taste Sesame Oil
To roast and grind:
Long pepper (thippili) 4 to 5 sticks Pepper 1 tsp Cumin Seeds 1 tsp Tur Dal 1 tsp
To temper:
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp Curry leaves few
Method:
1. Soak the tamarind in hot water for 15 minutes. Extract the pulp and keep it aside. 2. Roast the ingredients given under "To roast and grind". Then transfer them to a blender. Powder them using little water into a fine paste. 3. Pressure cook the dal. Once cooked, mash the dal nicely. 4. Add the chopped tomatoes, tamarind extract, turmeric powder, hing and salt to a vessel and bring them to a boil. 5. Boil on a low heat until the raw smell of tamarind goes away. 6. Next add the ground paste and boil it for couple of minutes. 7. Add the mashed dal to the above boiling mixture. 8. Simmer the rasam for 3 to 4 minutes and switch off the flame. 9. Heat a tbsp of ghee. To it add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli and curry leaves. Once they splutter, add it to the rasam. 10. Garnish it with curry / coriander leaves.
The healthy thippili rasam is ready.
