Today's post is a simple spicy chutney which goes very well with idli / dosa. If you have traveled in Indian railways and if you had idli / dosa, then you would have never missed this chutney.
I adapted the recipe from Chef Venkatesh Bhat but with variations in the measurements to suit my kids' taste.
Let's get on to the post.
Ingredients:
To grind:
Roasted Chana Dal gram (Pottukadalai) 1 cup
Coconut 2 tsp
Garlic Cloves 5 to 6
Ginger 1 or 2 inch chopped
Green Chillies 4 to 5
Tamarind small amla sized
Coriander leaves 1 handful
Salt to taste
To temper:
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
Urad Dal 1 tsp
Red Chilli 1
Curry leaves few
Method:
👉 In a mixer jar, add all the ingredients given under "To grind" into a fine paste adding water.
👉 Transfer the ground paste to a vessel and add 1.5 to 2 cups of water. The chutney needs to be a little watery.
👉 Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, red chilli and curry leaves. Once they splutter, add it to the chutney.
👉 Enjoy it with hot idli / dosa.
