Spicy Onion Almond Chutney

Today's post is a simple Onion Chutney with an almond twist, that can be paired with idli / dosa.


Ingredients:

Onion 4

Almonds a handful

Tamarind small ball sized

Green Chilli 1

Red Chilli 3 or 4

Turmeric Powder a pinch

Mustard Seeds 1 tsp

Asafoetida a pinch

Salt to taste

Sesame Oil


Method:

  1. Soak tamarind in little water for 15 minutes.

  2. Saute almonds in a pan for a minute and keep it aside.

  3. Heat oil in a pan. Once hot , add mustard seeds, green chilli, red chillies and allow them to splutter.

  4. Add the chopped onions. Saute them well for 3 to 4 minutes.

  5. Transfer them to a mixer jar.

  6. Grind them along with the sauted almonds, soaked tamarind and salt into a fine paste.

  7. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.

  8. Add the ground paste to it.

  9. Add turmeric powder and asafoetida. Saute them for 2 minutes.

  10. Switch off the flame.
