Tomato Rasam

Let's see how to make a simple tomato rasam 😃

Ingredients:


Tomato 1

Cooked Thur dal (1/4 cup or as per your taste)

Tamarind - small lemon sized

1/2 tsp turmeric powder

Asafoetida as per taste

Few Curry leaves

Salt to taste


To grind:

Pepper 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp


To temper:

Oil or ghee

Mustard Seeds

Cumin Seeds

Curry leaves


Method:

  1. Soak the tamarind in hot water for 15 minutes. Extract the tamarind pulp and keep it aside.

  2. Pressure cook the dal. Once cooked, mash it nicely.

  3. Add the chopped tomatoes, tamarind extract, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt to a vessel and bring them to a boil.

  4. Boil on a low heat until the smell of tamarind goes away.

  5. Add rasam powder, mix well.

  6. Add tur dal

  7. Next add the pepper-cumin powder

  8. Let it simmer for 5 minutes and then switch off the flame.

  9. Heat a tbsp of ghee. To it add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves. Once they splutter, add it to the rasam.

  10. Garnish with coriander and curry leaves.
