I am a big time rasam lover š . You might have seen lots of rasam recipes in my blog. But this rasam that I have posted now is something very special. It is actually a result of my absent-mindedness. Any regular rasam will contain tamarind extract. It so happened that I forgot to add the tamarind extract š¤·š»āāļø. I was very skeptical how the taste of this rasam would be, as it is a very basic rasam with no ground herbs like pepper - cumin - coriander, but with just rasam powder for flavour. Now, no tamarind made me feel that its going to be a spoiler. But to my surprise, it turned out to be even more scrumptious than a tamarind added rasam. Have you ever made this kinda rasam before? If so, please tell me what the name is. I was even thinking of naming this as an absent-minded rasam ššš.
Recipe below:
Ingredients:
Tomato 1
Cooked Thur dal (1/4 cup or as per your taste)
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Asafoetida as per taste
Few Curry leaves
Salt to taste
Mustard Seeds
Cumin Seeds
Curry leaves
Method:
Pressure cook the dal. Once cooked, mash it nicely.
Add the chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, asafoetida and salt to a vessel and bring them to a boil.
Add rasam powder, mix well. Boil for 5 minutes.
Add tur dal. Let it simmer for 5 minutes and then switch off the flame.
Heat a tbsp of ghee. To it add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves. Once they splutter, add it to the rasam.
Garnish with coriander and curry leaves.
