Verkadalai Podi (Peanut powder)

Today's post is a simple powder made using roasted peanuts.

The peanut powder can be prepared and stored in an airtight container for a week or two. It can be had with hot rice mixed with ghee/oil or with idli / dosa.

Peanuts have a plethora of health benefits. Do you know that they:

👉 are a good source of proteins.

👉 help in weight loss.

👉 give smooth and glowing skin.

👉 improve eye health.

👉 prevent gall stones.

👉 contain nutrients that are good for heart.

👉 reduce the risk of cancer.

These are just a few benefits of including peanuts in our diet.

Lets get on to the post.

Ingredients

Peanuts 1 cup

Chana dal 1/2 cup

Red Chillies 8 to 10

Hing a pinch

Salt to taste

Method:

1. Heat little oil in a pan.

2. Add the chana dal, red chillies and fry them until golden brown. Remove from pan and keep it aside.

3. Switch off the flame and add peanuts to the above pan. (If using roasted peanuts, ignore this step)

4. Once they cool, transfer the roasted ingredients in step 2 and step 3into a jar. Add salt and hing to it.

5. Grind them into a coarse powder.

** Make sure you grind the chana dal first before adding peanuts. Otherwise When we combine everything, the chana dal might not get ground properly.
