This is a very simple dish cooked with raw bananas (plantain) and blended with coconut and green chilli mix. It is a traditional Kerala style stir fry. It is very easy to make and goes well with sambar, rasam.

Thoran generally is a dry vegetable dish made with different kinds of vegetables like raw banana, beans, carrot etc. Here I have used raw bananas.

Ingredients:

Raw Banana 2

Shredded Coconut 1/4 cup

Green Chilli 1 or 2

Mustard seeds 1 tsp

Urad dal 1 tsp

Turmeric Powder 1 tsp

Asafoetida a pinch

Coconut oil

Method:

1. Peel the skin of the raw banana and chop it into pieces.

2. Heat oil in a pan.

3. Add mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add the urad dal.

4. Once the urad dal becomes brown, add turmeric powder, asafoetida.

5. Saute it for a second and add the diced raw banana pieces.

6. Add salt to it.

7. Add little water and cover the pan with the lid.

8. Let it cook in low flame.

9. In the meantime, add shredded coconut and a green chilli to the mixer jar. Grind it well without adding water.

10. Once the raw banana is cooked, add the ground coconut-chilli mixture.

11. Mix well and switch off the flame after a minute.

12. Garnish with coriander leaves.
