MOMOS !!! Who wouldn't love My kids just love them and so do I. This has become an all-time favourite in our home. Well, momos is a popular north eastern recipe which is best served with red chilli chutney. Here's how I made it.

For the dough:

Maida

Salt

Oil

For the stuffing:

Oil

Mustard Seeds

Chopped Onion, green chilli, ginger and garlic

Capsicum (optional)

Shredded Carrot

Shredded Cabbage

Paneer (optional)

Tomato sauce

Salt

Garam masala powder

Dough:

  1. In a bowl, add maida, required salt and a tsp of oil.

  2. Knead the dough well.

  3. Cover it and rest for 20 minutes.

  4. In the meantime, prepare the stuffing.

Stuffing:

1. Heat a pan with a tsp of oil.

2. Add mustard seeds. Once it splutters, add ginger, garlic and green chilli and fry them.

3. Add onion and saute it well.

4. Next add capsicum and saute it for couple of minutes.

5. Then add the shredded carrot and cabbage.

6. Add salt and garam masala. Saute it in medium flame for 5 minutes.

7. Add panner pieces and saute it for 2 minutes.

8. Add little tomato sauce and saute it for a minute.

The stuffing is ready.

Preparing the momo:

1. Divide the dough into balls.

2. Flatten each ball with a rolling pin. You need to roll in such a way that the centre of the ball needs to be thick and the edges need to be thin.

3. Place the stuffing in the centre.

4. Lift one side of the edge and start pleating slowly. Once the pleating is complete, join all the pleats in the center.

5. Prepare all the momos in the same way.

Steaming the momos:

1. Grease a idli plate or steamer with oil.

2. Place the momos in the greased plate or steamer.

3. Steam them for 8 to 10 minutes.

Note:

Do not over-steam the momos. If you over-steam, the outer layer will become very hard.

Delicious momo is ready.
